Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Measure out the flour and sift into a large mixing bowl. Stir in the baking powder and rub in the butter. Add the sugar and buttermilk and form a solid dough – do not overwork!
Flatten out the dough on a work surface and cut out the scones with a small glass or fluted cookie cutter (spray with some cake release spray or flour). Place on a baking tray with parchment paper.
Brush with some milk or eggwash and bake for about 15-20 minutes.
