It is sunday today and that means baking sunday! Donauwellen might take a while to make but its absolutely worth it! They are delicious!

For one baking tray (30x40cm)
250g butter 
200g caster sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
a pinch of salt
5 medium eggs
375g plain flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
20g cacao powder
1 tablespoon milk
2 glasses morello cherries 
125g creme fraiche
125g greek yoghurt
dark chocolate, vegetable oil

Preheat the oven for 180°C.

Cream the butter with sugar and vanilla sugar. Add one egg at the time and whisk for a minute after each egg. Mix flour and baking powder and sift into the bowl.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread 2/3rds of the batter onto the baking tray.

To the rest add the milk and sift in the cacao. Mix and spread on top of the white batter.

Drain the cherries and place as many on the cake as possible. Press each cherry into the batter.

Bake for about 30 minutes. Leave to cool.

For the topping mix creme fraiche and yoghurt, spread over the cold cake. Place in the fridge until everything is very cold.

Melt chocolate in a waterbath and add a little oil. Carefully spread over the yoghurt  on the cake and leave to set.

Cut into pieces and serve 🙂
