I love this recipe! It’s an old family recipe and i’ve been baking this cake since I was about five years old. It’s my speciality 😉
The recipe is for a 28cm springform pan, but the dough can be used to make several smaller cakes (picture shows a cake baked in a 23cm silicon pan).
375g caster sugar
375g self raising flour or plain flour plus 2 teaspoons baking powder
200ml red wine
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 teaspoons cacao
150g chocolate flakes/chunks 400g chocolate cake covering
Preheat the oven for 180-200C.
Prepare the pan (buttering and flour for metal pans) and mix ingredients together in listed order.
Stir for a long time to get a fluffy dough and fill in pan(s).
Bake for 30-60 minutes depending on cake size.
Let the cake cool down.
Cover with melted chocolate (melt in waterbath or microwave) and leave to cool down before decorating it further.
This cake is ideal as a birthday cake or a little gift.
If you like it a bit more chocolately just add melted chocolate to the dough!
